DRUG: Heroin

AKA: B0rown, skag, smack, gear, H

FROM: Processed from poppies and imported

TAKEN: Smoked, Injected, Rectal

LASTS: Around 6hrs but varies by method taken

WHAT HAPPENS? You may experience relaxation and euphoria, overall sense of wellbeing

DANGERS: Heroin can cause severe addiction together with unpleasant withdrawal effects, poor health and wellbeing, heart and lung problems, loss of consciousness or overdose. Death.

COST: £10/bag (0.2g)

HARM REDUCTION: Don’t mix with other substances especially alcohol or other depressants such as benzodiazepines. Do not use alone, use in trusted company. When experiencing periods of abstinence, tolerance levels will have dropped so start with smaller amounts than previously used. Smoke rather than inject heroin. Reduce daily amounts to prevent build-up of tolerance. If injecting, adopt safer injecting techniques and attend a needle exchange. Never share equipment due to risk of BBV. LASTS: 1-2 hours

WHAT HAPPENS? You may experience Euphoria, Rapid intense rushing high, Sense of wellbeing and contentment, Talkativeness, Hallucinations at higher doses but also a rapid heartbeat, tightness of chest, bad come down for several days, Risk of overdose and heart failure or severe paranoia with repeated dosing or prolonged use.

DANGERS: Can be highly addictive, Development of delusional paranoia and psychosis with prolonged use, Negative effects on memory and brain function

HARM REDUCTION: While Intoxicated: you are vulnerable and less sensitive to pain! DANGERS: Risk of injury, paralysis, assault, vomiting, bladder problems, unconsciousness, death

WHAT HAPPENS? You may become more talkative, energetic, increased confidence but also, due to stimulation effects, may prevent sleep, reduce appetite and increase anxiety

DANGERS: May result in weight loss, paranoia, low mood and depression, exhaustion and heart/digestive problems
